Job Purpose

The position of Technician for Exotics Racing generally served as a high-performance engine technician, professionally response for keeping vehicles running as smoothly and efficiently as possible. Technicians will typically work on maintaining high- performance vehicles. Using computer diagnostic equipment, the Technician tests the cars to ensure they are operating correctly and identify potential problems; also works on high performance steering and suspension, drivelines, electrical and ignition systems.

Essential Job Functions

  • Repair engine failures and drivetrain, mechanical and electrical systems malfunctions, and body damage.
  • Verify vehicle serviceability by conducting test drives while complying with state vehicle requirements, to include testing engine, safety, and combustion control standards.
  • Maintain vehicle records by recording service and repairs.
  • Contain costs by using warranty, evaluating service and parts options.
  • Stay on top of industry trends and job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading technical publications.

Job Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED with additional course work through a technical trade school, community college, or junior college to study the construction and operation of engines.
  • Four years’ experience as a journey-level mechanic preferred
  • Thorough knowledge of the complexities of automotive technology, care, and operation of internal combustion engines as well as electric hybrids, current repair methods, materials, and tools
  • Demonstrated ability to perform complex diagnostic repairs on all vehicle systems in order to determine appropriate maintenance and repairs – REQUIRED
  • Effectively use hand tools and automotive diagnostic equipment and interpret manufacturers’ specifications
  • Maintain cooperative working relationships while demonstrating respect for a diverse population
  • Flexibility and open availability are a must!
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is required
  • Must have own tools

Education

High School Diploma or GED with additional course work through a technical trade school, community college, or junior college to study the construction and operation of engines.

Certifications

Safety Certifications (e.g., OSHA 10-Hour):

Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certification:

  • ASE certifications are widely recognized in the industry and cover different areas of automotive repair. The most relevant ones for this role include:
    • A4: Suspension and Steering
    • A5: Brakes
    • A6: Electrical/Electronic Systems

EPA Section 609 Certification:

  • Required for technicians working with air conditioning systems, this Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) certification allows mechanics to handle refrigerants legally and ensures they’re trained in environmental regulations.

The Work Environment
May be exposed to sounds and noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable; may be exposed to hazardous equipment and/or hazardous conditions requiring the need to wear common protective or safety equipment such as safety shoes, glasses, gloves, hard hats; may require working in very hot or very cold temperatures; may require working under covered structure with roof but no walls; requires working outdoors exposed to all weather conditions. Performs physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials; uses hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, and moving materials, and manipulating things; performs repetitive physical activities or mental activities without stopping. Requires contact with others (face-to-face, by telephone or otherwise). Must be able to perform physical activities such as, but not limited to, lifting equipment (up to 50 lbs. unassisted), bending, standing, climbing or walking. Must be able to safely use manual tools and power equipment common in the construction trades. Must be able to handle hazardous materials safely and tolerate exposure to electrical hazards.
